Having been involved in the Girls Active Awards in 2018 as a judge and ambassador, World Champion inline skater Jenna Downing is back for the 2019 awards shares why she can’t wait to read this years’ nominations:
“It was an honour to be asked to be a judge at the Girls Active Awards last year, particularly because this is a programme that I am so passionate about. Using Girls Active Leaders to inspire other girls to become more physically active really has transformed the lives of so many girls up and down the country and it was a pleasure to read about some of these stories as part of the judging process.
We all know that physical activity can boost confidence and self-esteem, mood, attainment levels, sleep quality and energy (just to name a few benefits!), but to read evidence of girls achieving this for their peers in school was just amazing!
Programmes such as Girls Active are so important to inspiring girls to lead healthier, active lives, and by introducing an awards process this gives the girls a sense of accomplishment and pride for everything they have achieved and continue to achieve in their schools.
The more we can increase the visibility of girls and women participating in sport and physical activity the more we can inspire the next generation of girls to get involved and maintain an interest in being active.”
